Week 12 Opinion Post Hurricanes tied to Global Warming? Don't Bet On It.

William Gray, perhaps the foremost authority on hurricanes, has issued his prediction for the upcoming hurricane season. He said in this article he predicts that 5 will reach or exceed Category 3, and that the chances of a Cat 3, 4, or 5 striking the US mainland are just over 80%. He doesn't think this year will be as bad for the storms as the last two years, although he says we are currently in a decade of stronger storms.
The part I found most interesting are these last last paragraphs: "Some scientists also believe global warming plays a crucial role by further increasing the temperature of warm ocean waters that provide fuel to the hurricanes.
But the Colorado State University study played down the theory.
"No credible observational evidence is available or likely will be available in the next few decades which will directly associate global surface temperature change to changes in global frequency and intensity," it said.
So, the "global warming" alarmist fans in the media couldn't resist "gettin' in their licks' about global warming being another bogeyman for forming these stronger hurricanes, not too surprising . What did surprise me is that the Colorado State University study ( where Dr. Gray heads the dept that studies hurricanes) has said there is no current CREDIBLE evidence available now, nor likely to be in the future, to link global warming induced higher surface sea temperatures to the formation of stronger hurricanes. Now that is news.
